Women in Generation Y have truly grasped and expanded the power of audacity.
Merriam-Webster has a definition for audacity that states:
a bold or arrogant disregard of normal restraints
We use our audacity in numerous ways, despite our upbringing. A study in The Journal of Pediatric Psychology found that parents are four times more likely to tell girls than boys to “be careful”. This simply does not work for us. We need to cultivate an environment that pushes women to try new things, step outside their comfort zones, and go against the status quo.
Some of the numerous ways we use our audacity as women include:
- Pushing past society to strengthen our self love.
- Leaving jobs behind that no longer serve us to start businesses that provide true security. According to Crash the Glass, an in-depth study by REAL, 9 out of every 10 millennial female entrepreneurs left the corporate world to start a private business.
- Ending relationships that are holding us back
- Charging what we are worth by asking for more money.
Taking risks and exercising audacity is as essential for women as taking daily vitamins. It’s already in you, practicing it everyday strengthens and cultivates it. So let’s put our big girl panties on and get to work. How will you use your audacity?
