In spite of the misconception that professionals must sever their personal and business lives, in this day and age, properly branding yourself through all available channels (including and especially social media) will help you thrive in your profession. Several of my friends have picked up new clients and received job offers solely because they have strategically branded themselves on social media as experts in their respective industries. When people want to find information on you, they search for your social media first. Embrace this reality and start using your social media to your advantage.
Now, don’t get carried away – you can come off as obnoxious. Your followers will sense when you’re just “doing it for the gram.” But don’t feel like you have to hide what you do, especially if you love it. Although your persona at work may differ from your persona when Future comes on the radio, don’t hesitate to show people how much of a badass you are professionally.
1) Put your profession or what you do in the about me section on your social media
2) Post about your mini successes at work! Let us know about your raise! Tell us how you bodyrocked your presentation.
3) Post advice or things you learn on the job – you never know who you could be helping!
